Longwood Lions (Middle Island, NY) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the visiting Walt Whitman Wildcats (Huntington Station, NY), 45-37 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Longwood upgrades its record to 1-0 on the campaign. The Lions travel to Riverhead (Riverhead, NY) to play the Blue Waves in a non-league bout on Tuesday, January 9. The Blue Waves come into the bout with a record of 0-1.

Next up, the Wildcats play the Sachem East (Farmingville, NY) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, December 19. Walt Whitman will attempt to upgrade on its 0-1 season record.
