In Saturday's league contest, the host Stayton Eagles basketball team scored a close 52-45 triumph over the Newport Cubs.
The Eagles (4-0) will now prepare for their contest against Cottage Grove (Cottage Grove, OR). The Lions go into the non-league contest with a 1-3 record. In their last contest, Cottage Grove nipped Sweet Home (Sweet Home, OR), 53-45, in a non-league contest.
In their next game, the Cubs confront the North Bend Bulldogs (North Bend, OR) in a non-league contest, on Monday, December 16. Newport will attempt to better on its 3-1 season record. The Bulldogs go into the contest with a 1-3 record after their 71-45 non-league loss to Hidden Valley (Grants Pass, OR).
