The Mt. Vernon Mustangs (Mt. Vernon, IA) basketball knocked off the visiting Independence Mustangs (Independence, IA), 63-51 in Tuesday's non-league test.

The Mustangs (6-2) will now prepare for their test against Monticello (Monticello, IA). The Panthers go into the non-league test with a 6-1 record. In their last test, Monticello notched a victory over Camanche (Camanche, IA), 75-38, in a league test.

The Mustangs now own a 4-4 record. They play next when they travel to Union for a non-league test on Thursday, December 22. Independence will encounter a Knights squad coming off a 73-54 league loss to Hudson (Hudson, IA). The Knights record now stands at 5-4.
