Texas High School Basketball - Monterey can't hold off Amarillo

December 20, 2024: Lubbock, TX 79413

Amarillo Sandies (Amarillo, TX) supporters left the game satisfied Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad nudge the host Monterey Plainsmen (Lubbock, TX), 57-51 in a league match.

With the victory, Amarillo advances its record to 18-5 on the year. The Sandies host Lubbock-Cooper (Lubbock, TX) to face the Pirates in a 5A Region I District 3 match on Friday, January 3. The Pirates enter the match with a record of 11-6.

The Plainsmen now own a 6-12 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Roosevelt for a non-league match on Thursday, December 26. Monterey will face a Mustangs squad coming off a 69-62 non-league win over Skyline (Dallas, TX). The Mustangs record now stands at 8-9.
