Chireno Owls (Chireno, TX) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Broaddus Bulldogs (Broaddus, TX), 42-31 in a league bout.

With the win, Chireno upgrades its record to 3-8 on the season. The Owls travel to San Augustine (San Augustine, TX) to play the Wolves in a 2A Region III District 24 bout on Tuesday, January 3. The Wolves go into the bout with a record of 2-9. San Augustine won 53-43 in their recent non-league bout against Calvert (Calvert, TX)

Next up, the Bulldogs play the West Sabine Tigers (Pineland, TX) in a 2A Region III District 24 bout, on Tuesday, January 3. Broaddus will attempt to upgrade on its 4-11 season record. The Tigers go into the bout with a 1-12 record after their 55-38 league loss to Woden (Woden, TX).
