McMichael Phoenix (Mayodan, NC) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Rockingham County Cougars (Wentworth, NC), 66-62 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, McMichael upgrades its record to 2-4 on the campaign. The Phoenix travel to West Stokes (King, NC) to play the Wildcats in a 2A Mid-State bout on Monday, December 11. The Wildcats come into the bout with a record of 6-2. West Stokes won 62-56 in their recent non-league bout against East Surry (Pilot Mountain, NC)

Next up, the Cougars play the Morehead Panthers (Eden, NC) in a non-league bout, on Friday, December 8. Rockingham County will attempt to upgrade on its 2-2 season record. The Panthers come into the bout with a 3-1 record after their 76-58 non-league win over Northeast Guilford (McLeansville, NC).
