Newton Cardinals (Newton, IA) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs (Dallas Center, IA), 65-54 in a league bout.

With the win, Newton upgrades its record to 1-2 on the season. The Cardinals host Pella (Pella, IA) to play the Dutch in a Little Hawkeye bout on Friday, December 16. The Dutch go into the bout with a record of 4-1. Pella won 49-24 in their recent league bout against Grinnell (Grinnell, IA)

Next up, the Mustangs play the Des Moines Christian Lions (Des Moines, IA) in a non-league bout, on Saturday, December 10. Dallas Center-Grimes will attempt to upgrade on its 0-1 season record. The Lions go into the bout with a 4-0 record after their 74-16 league win over Woodward Academy (Woodward, IA).
