Newman Central Catholic Comets (Sterling, IL) backers were pleased Monday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the visiting Mendota Trojans (Mendota, IL), 70-59 in a league bout.

With the victory, Newman Central Catholic upgrades its record to 20-10 on the campaign. The Comets host Lena-Winslow (Lena, IL) to play the Panthers in a non-league bout on Tuesday, February 13. The Panthers come into the bout with a record of 19-8. Lena-Winslow won 64-38 in their recent league bout against Pearl City (Pearl City, IL)

Next up, the Trojans play the Ottawa Pirates (Ottawa, IL) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, February 13. Mendota will attempt to upgrade on its 12-17 season record. The Pirates come into the bout with a 11-13 record after their 41-26 league loss to Morris (Morris, IL).
