Meridian Wildcats (Meridian, MS) backers exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Quitman Panthers (Quitman, MS), 8-7 in a non-league challenge.

The Wildcats now own a 2-1 record. They take the field next when they host Columbus for a non-league challenge on Tuesday, February 20. Meridian will face a Falcons squad coming off a 21-1 non-league loss to Eupora (Eupora, MS). The Falcons record now stands at 0-2.

With the loss, Quitman falls to 0-3 on the campaign. The Panthers host Northeast Jones (Laurel, MS) to face the Tigers in a 4A Region 5 challenge on Tuesday, February 27. The Tigers enter the challenge with a record of 1-2.
