Wingate Bears (Fort Wingate, NM) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the visiting Zuni Thunderbirds (Zuni, NM), 51-42 in a league bout.

With the victory, Wingate upgrades its record to 9-12 on the campaign. The Bears travel to Newcomb (Newcomb, NM) to play the Skyhawks in a 3A District 1 bout on Saturday, February 4. The Skyhawks come into the bout with a record of 11-10. Newcomb lost 64-58 in their recent league bout against Thoreau (Thoreau, NM)

Next up, the Thunderbirds play the Navajo Prep Eagles (Farmington, NM) in a 3A District 1 bout, on Saturday, February 4. Zuni will attempt to upgrade on its 7-10 season record. The Eagles come into the bout with a 19-2 record after their 69-45 league win over Thoreau (Thoreau, NM).
