Giles Spartans (Pearisburg, VA) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Fort Chiswell Pioneers (Max Meadows, VA), 47-34 in a league bout.

With the win, Giles upgrades its record to 4-14 on the season. The Spartans host Bland County (Rocky Gap, VA) to play the Bears in a Mountain Empire bout on Monday, February 5. The Bears go into the bout with a record of 5-13.

Next up, the Pioneers play the Grayson County Blue Devils (Independence, VA) in a Mountain Empire bout, on Tuesday, February 6. Fort Chiswell will attempt to upgrade on its 8-11 season record. The Blue Devils go into the bout with a 7-12 record after their 42-39 league win over Galax (Galax, VA).
