Van Vandals (Van, TX) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Athens Hornets (Athens, TX), 61-42 in a league bout.

With the win, Van upgrades its record to 16-9 on the season. The Vandals travel to Canton (Canton, TX) to play the Eagles in a 4A Region II District 16 bout on Tuesday, February 6. The Eagles go into the bout with a record of 27-5. Canton won 43-27 in their recent league bout against Brownsboro (Brownsboro, TX)

Next up, the Hornets play the Lindale Eagles (Lindale, TX) in a 4A Region II District 16 bout, on Tuesday, February 6. Athens will attempt to upgrade on its 5-19 season record. The Eagles go into the bout with a 19-12 record after their 49-30 league win over Mabank (Mabank, TX).
