Vanguard Academy Rembrandt Spartans (Pharr, TX) fans were pleased Friday as they observed their soccer team knock off the host Vanguard Academy Mozart (Alamo, TX), 3-0 in a league challenge.
Next, the Spartans confront the Zapata Hawks (Zapata, TX) in a 4A Region 4 District 30 challenge, on Friday, February 17. Vanguard Academy Rembrandt will attempt to better on its 1-2 season record.

Match Summary
Vanguard Mozart and Vanguard Rembrandt played a closely contested match Friday night, before Rembrandt pulled out the win with 3 second half goals. The teams played a scoreless first half that saw Rembrandt attempt multiple corners, but all shots on goal were rejected by Mozart goalkeeper Valeria Cabrera. Mozart had an opportunity to get on the scoreboard late in the half, but Qianni Gonzalez's shot off a counter attack went wide. Rembrandt took advantage of a couple of halftime defensive substitutions, scoring twice within 5 minutes against the young substitute center backs, the second goal coming from over 20 yards out, just over the fingertips of the Mozart goalie. Despite a late rally, Mozart was unable to find the net, and Rembrandt finished the scoring with a late goal after a great save by Cabrera was put back on the rebound.
