In Monday's non-league contest, the host Benton Rangers basketball team scored a close 46-39 triumph over the Carbondale Terriers.

The Rangers (10-14) will now prepare for their contest against Frankfort (West Frankfort, IL). The Redbirds go into the Southern Illinois River-to-River - Mississippi contest with a 12-15 record. In their last contest, Frankfort was tipped by Hamilton County (McLeansboro, IL), 51-48, in a non-league contest.

In their next game, the Terriers battle the Marion Wildcats (Marion, IL) in a South Seven contest, on Tuesday, February 4. Carbondale will attempt to better on its 13-13 season record. The Wildcats go into the contest with a 15-6 record after their 77-29 non-league win over Herrin (Herrin, IL).
