The Mt. Vernon Mustangs basketball team scored 73 points and limited the host Independence Mustangs to 26 in the Mustangs non-league triumph on Monday.

The Mustangs now possess a 19-1 record. They play next when they host Marion for a non-league game on Friday, February 7. Mt. Vernon will confront a Wolves team coming off a 56-46 league win over Center Point-Urbana (Center Point, IA). The Wolves record now stands at 11-7.

With the loss, Independence falls to 7-11 on the campaign. The Mustangs travel to Solon (Solon, IA) to confront the Spartans in a non-league game on Friday, February 7. The Spartans go into the game with a record of 9-10. Solon won 53-52 in their recent league game against West Delaware (Manchester, IA)
