Kake Thunderbirds (Kake, AK) backers were pleased Saturday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Skagway Panthers (Skagway, AK), 53-51 in a league bout.

With the victory, Kake upgrades its record to 6-0 on the campaign. The Thunderbirds host Klawock (Klawock, AK) to play the Chieftains in a 1A Southeast bout on Monday, February 6. The Chieftains come into the bout with a record of 11-1. Klawock won 56-47 in their recent league bout against Yakutat (Yakutat, AK)

Next up, the Panthers play the Craig Panthers (Craig, AK) in a non-league bout, on Sunday, February 12. Skagway will attempt to upgrade on its 5-3 season record. The Panthers come into the bout with a 2-11 record after their 85-30 league loss to Wrangell (Wrangell, AK).
