The Bland County Bears (Rocky Gap, VA) basketball nipped the host Giles Spartans (Pearisburg, VA), 55-49 in Monday's league test.

The Bears (8-14) will now prepare for their test against Grayson County (Independence, VA). The Blue Devils go into the Mountain Empire test with a 8-12 record. In their last test, Grayson County got by Fort Chiswell (Max Meadows, VA), 66-28, in a league test.

The Spartans now own a 4-17 record. They play next when they travel to Galax for a Mountain Empire test on Wednesday, February 7. Giles will encounter a Maroon Tide squad coming off a 72-46 league loss to Auburn (Riner, VA). The Maroon Tide record now stands at 7-13.
