Fans at Monday's non-league challenge between the McMinn County Cherokees (Athens, TN) and the visiting Sequoyah Chiefs (Madisonville, TN), saw McMinn County's basketball squad hold off Sequoyah by a tally of 60-56.

With the victory, McMinn County improves its record to 9-11 on the campaign. The Cherokees travel to Walker Valley (Cleveland, TN) to confront the Mustangs in a 4A District 5 challenge on Tuesday, February 6. The Mustangs come into the challenge with a record of 16-9. Walker Valley won 62-50 in their recent league challenge against Rhea County (Evensville, TN)

Next up, the Chiefs confront the South-Doyle Cherokees (Knoxville, TN) in a 3A District 5 challenge, on Tuesday, February 6. Sequoyah will attempt to improve on its 11-12 season record. The Cherokees come into the challenge with a 14-9 record after their 65-45 league win over Loudon (Loudon, TN).
