Fans at Tuesday's league challenge between the Watauga Pioneers (Boone, NC) and the host Alexander Central Cougars (Taylorsville, NC), saw Watauga's basketball squad overcome Alexander Central by a tally of 60-49.

With the victory, Watauga improves its record to 16-5 on the campaign. The Pioneers host Hibriten (Lenoir, NC) to confront the Panthers in a 3A/4A Northwestern challenge on Friday, February 9. The Panthers come into the challenge with a record of 1-19. Hibriten lost 72-55 in their recent non-league challenge against McDowell (Marion, NC)

Next up, the Cougars confront the South Caldwell Spartans (Hudson, NC) in a 3A/4A Northwestern challenge, on Friday, February 9. Alexander Central will attempt to improve on its 8-13 season record. The Spartans come into the challenge with a 15-6 record after their 90-74 league win over Freedom (Morganton, NC).
