Fans at Thursday's league challenge between the Newport Cubs (Newport, OR) and the visiting Sweet Home Huskies (Sweet Home, OR), saw Newport's basketball squad overcome Sweet Home by a tally of 54-43.

With the victory, Newport improves its record to 8-11 on the campaign. The Cubs host Marshfield (Coos Bay, OR) to confront the Pirates in a non-league challenge on Friday, February 10. The Pirates come into the challenge with a record of 9-11. Marshfield won 72-57 in their recent league challenge against Cottage Grove (Cottage Grove, OR)

Next up, the Huskies confront the Philomath Warriors (Philomath, OR) in a 4A Oregon West challenge, on Monday, February 13. Sweet Home will attempt to improve on its 1-17 season record. The Warriors come into the challenge with a 17-2 record after their 53-52 league win over North Marion (Aurora, OR).
