The Shandon Outlaws nudged the host San Luis Obispo Classical Academy Grizzlies baseball team by a tally of 15-14 in Tuesday's league bout.
The Outlaws now hold a 1-3 record. They take the field next when they host San Luis Obispo Classical Academy for a Coast Valley bout on Friday, April 12.
Next, the Grizzlies face the Coastal Christian Conquerors (Pismo Beach, CA) in a Coast Valley bout, on Friday, March 22. San Luis Obispo Classical Academy will attempt to advance on its 0-5 season record. The Conquerors enter the bout with a 3-5 record after their 13-3 league win over Coast Union (Cambria, CA).
Game Summary
The start of the game started badly for Shandon with loads of errors. Shandon pitcher Fernando Vargas had to take over to end the inning against a hard hitting Grizzly team. Inning 2 saw much of the same from both teams and SLO Classical went up 10 - 1. Momentum started to shift in the 3rd has Shandon added another and held the Grizzlies. In the fourth, The Grizzlies had trouble keeping the Outlaws from scoring as the game got tighter. In the top of the 5th, the Outlaws took their first lead with 3 hits; a beautiful bunt from pitcher Fernando Vargas, and hits from catcher Richard Reynoso and 3B Clayton Frazier. Then, in the bottom of the 5th, the Grizzlies roared back to take the lead 14 - 12 off 4 hits from; 3B Chase Edwards, SS Calvin Bischat, Jayden, and catcher Ben Hammel. It all came down to the 6th with time running out. Shandon got 3 to take the lead. Pitcher Eric Ruelas returned to the mound in the 6th. After 4 batters and 2 outs LF Vargas caught the game winning catch.
