The Ashe County Huskies (West Jefferson, NC) softball nipped the visiting West Wilkes Blackhawks (Millers Creek, NC), 9-8 in Wednesday's non-league outing.

The Huskies now sport a 3-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Hibriten for a Northwestern 3A/4A outing on Friday, March 21. Ashe County will encounter a Panthers team coming off a 14-5 non-league win over West Iredell (Statesville, NC). The Panthers record now stands at 7-2.

With the loss, West Wilkes moves to 6-3 on the season. The Blackhawks travel to Surry Central (Dobson, NC) to encounter the Golden Eagles in a Foothills 2A outing on Friday, March 21. The Golden Eagles come into the outing with a record of 3-3. Surry Central won 13-2 in their recent non-league outing against South Stokes (Walnut Cove, NC)
