Game Summary
A reinvigorated Watauga Pioneers team entered the game fresh off its season opener win, taking on the always hard charging Asheville Cougars under new head coach, Rob Canan. Watauga came out with a quick score in the first minute, with Asheville scoring midway through Q1 to tie. Watauga scored from range to end Q1 with Watauga up 2-1. Asheville's pressure defense and hard stick checks held Watauga scoreless in Q2 while Asheville racked up three quick goals near the end of the quarter off of good shots from range and a defensive mismatch. Watauga reset the offense at halftime, coming out strong with three goals in Q3 off two shots from range and an X feed dunk, while Asheville also scored, going into Q4 with the game tied up. In Q3, Watauga's center defenseman went out with a concussion while a starting midfielder went out with a leg injury. With these Watauga losses and fatigue, Asheville's deeper bench allowed it to take control of the game for three goals and the win in Q4.
