California High School Volleyball - Lake Balboa College Prep over Valor Academy

March 24, 2025: Lake Balboa, CA 91406

In Monday's league challenge, the host Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars volleyball team scored a 3-1 triumph over the Valor Academy .

The Cougars (1-8) will now prepare for their challenge against Sherman Oaks CES (Reseda, CA). The Knights come into the non-league challenge with a 3-3 record.

Next, the play the Sun Valley Magnet Pioneers (Sun Valley, CA) in a Central Valley challenge, on Thursday, March 27. Valor Academy will attempt to upgrade on its 1-4 season record. The Pioneers come into the challenge with a 5-3 record after their 3-2 league loss to Magnolia Science Academy Van Nuys (Van Nuys, CA).

Match Summary

Set 1 opened up at 5 all. That's when Lake Balboa hit the gas pedal to open up a 10 to 5 lead & never looked back. This season the Cougars have had a poor habit of losing the next game after a win. One win is not the highlight of the day. Set 2 opened 11-5 Lake but Valor Academy kept closing all the way down to 12-13. LBCP up 15-14. The Lake show erupted for a 20-14 cushion & won going away. The very determined Lions fought back & unfortunately complacency set in again for LBCP. After the Cougars won the first 2 sets 50-32, the last 2 were a back alley brawl at 47-46. Valor opened at 8-4. Those 4 points would come back to haunt Lake Balboa at the end of the set. The lead switched back & forth several times until tied at 21. Valor scored 4 of the last 5 points to take the set. Set 4 opened 7-5 Valor. The teams battled to 11 all before the Lions roared to a 16-11 lead. It was 19, 20, & 21 all before Lake Balboa came up with 4 in a row to take the match.
