Athens Golden Eagles (Athens, AL) backers exited the stadium thrilled Saturday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Chelsea Hornets (Chelsea, AL), 7-3 in a non-league challenge.

The Golden Eagles now own a 4-0 record. They take the field next when they host Hazel Green for a 6A Area 16 challenge on Tuesday, March 7. Athens will face a Trojans squad coming off a 10-0 non-league win over Grissom (Huntsville, AL). The Trojans record now stands at 4-2.

With the loss, Chelsea falls to 3-7 on the campaign. The Hornets travel to Tuscaloosa County (Northport, AL) to face the Wildcats in a non-league challenge on Saturday, March 4. The Wildcats enter the challenge with a record of 6-4. Tuscaloosa County won 7-1 in their recent non-league challenge against North Jackson (Stevenson, AL)
