In Monday's non-league contest, the Southwestern Piasa Birds (Piasa, IL) softball team overwhelmed the host Marquette Catholic Explorers (Alton, IL), by a margin of 11-1.

With the triumph, Southwestern moves its record to 9-8 on the year. The Piasa Birds host Gillespie (Gillespie, IL) to play the Miners in a South Central contest on Tuesday, April 16. The Miners come into the contest with a record of 15-4. Gillespie won 11-0 in their recent non-league contest against Mater Dei (Breese, IL)

In their next game, the Explorers play the Althoff Catholic Crusaders (Belleville, IL) in a Gateway Metro contest, on Tuesday, April 16. Marquette Catholic will attempt to move on its 3-9 season record. The Crusaders come into the contest with a 1-4 record after their 15-2 league loss to Father McGivney Catholic (Glen Carbon, IL).
