Riverside-Durham Pirates (Durham, NC) backers exited the stadium thrilled Wednesday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Southern Durham Spartans (Durham, NC), 17-16 in a non-league challenge.

The Pirates now own a 5-9 record. They take the field next when they host East Chapel Hill for a DAC-VII 4A challenge on Friday, April 22. Riverside-Durham will battle a Wildcats squad coming off a 17-2 non-league win over Durham School of the Arts (Durham, NC). The Wildcats record now stands at 3-10.

With the loss, Southern Durham falls to 2-5 on the campaign. The Spartans travel to South Granville (Creedmoor, NC) to battle the Vikings in a Northern Lakes Athletic 2A/3A challenge on Tuesday, April 26. The Vikings enter the challenge with a record of 12-4. South Granville won 23-0 in their recent league challenge against Carrboro (Carrboro, NC)
