El Modena Vanguards (Orange, CA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Esperanza Aztecs (Anaheim, CA), 1-0 in a league challenge.

The Vanguards now own a 13-11 record. They take the field next when they host Foothill for a non-league challenge on Friday, April 21. El Modena will battle a Knights squad coming off a 7-3 league win over El Dorado (Placentia, CA). The Knights record now stands at 17-7.

With the loss, Esperanza falls to 17-6 on the campaign. The Aztecs host Villa Park (Villa Park, CA) to battle the Spartans in a Crestview challenge on Monday, April 24. The Spartans enter the challenge with a record of 16-9. Villa Park lost 11-8 in their recent league challenge against Canyon (Anaheim, CA)
