The Magoffin County Hornets nipped the visiting Elliott County Lions softball squad by a final score of 9-8 in Wednesday's non-league battle.

The Hornets (4-7) will now prepare for their battle against Martin County (Inez, KY). The Cardinals go into the District 57 battle with a 4-8 record. In their last battle, Martin County held off Tolsia (Fort Gay, WV), 10-4, in a non-league battle.

The Lions now possess a 9-8 record. They play next when they travel to Prestonsburg for a non-league battle on Thursday, April 25. Elliott County will meet a Blackcats squad coming off a 6-4 non-league loss to Knott County Central (Hindman, KY). The Blackcats record now stands at 6-10.
