Newport Grizzlies (Newport, WA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Wednesday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Lakeside Eagles (Nine Mile Falls, WA), 17-10 in a league challenge.

The Grizzlies now own a 5-7 record. They take the field next when they host Freeman for a 1A Northeast challenge on Friday, April 28. Newport will battle a Scotties squad coming off a 6-5 league loss to Riverside (Chattaroy, WA). The Scotties record now stands at 6-5.

With the loss, Lakeside falls to 2-9 on the campaign. The Eagles host Deer Park (Deer Park, WA) to battle the Stags in a 1A Northeast challenge on Friday, April 28. The Stags enter the challenge with a record of 5-3. Deer Park lost 8-4 in their recent league challenge against Freeman (Rockford, WA)
