Iola Mustangs (Iola, KS) backers exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Emporia Spartans (Emporia, KS), 5-4 in a non-league challenge.

The Mustangs now own a 11-8 record. They take the field next when they host Wellsville for a non-league challenge on Tuesday, April 30. Iola will battle a Eagles squad coming off a 8-3 league loss to Santa Fe Trail (Carbondale, KS). The Eagles record now stands at 5-13.

With the loss, Emporia falls to 5-11 on the campaign. The Spartans travel to Topeka (Topeka, KS) to battle the Trojans in a Centennial challenge on Tuesday, April 30. The Trojans enter the challenge with a record of 4-8. Topeka lost 14-1 in their recent non-league challenge against Basehor-Linwood (Basehor, KS)
