Mankato East Cougars (Mankato, MN) backers exited the stadium thrilled Tuesday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Mankato West Scarlets (Mankato, MN), 5-2 in a league challenge.

The Cougars now own a 7-4 record. They take the field next when they host Owatonna for a Big 9 challenge on Wednesday, May 1. Mankato East will battle a Huskies squad coming off a 8-2 league win over Mayo (Rochester, MN). The Huskies record now stands at 8-4.

With the loss, Mankato West falls to 9-3 on the campaign. The Scarlets host Hopkins (Minnetonka, MN) to battle the Royals in a non-league challenge on Thursday, May 2. The Royals enter the challenge with a record of 1-7. Hopkins lost 12-7 in their recent non-league challenge against St. Louis Park (St. Louis Park, MN)
