The crowd at Monday's non-league match between the Hampton Bulldogs (Hampton, TN) and the host Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC), saw Hampton's softball squad nip Avery County by a count of 18-14.

The Bulldogs now sport a 1-7 record. They take the field next when they travel to Johnson County for a non-league match on Tuesday, April 5. Hampton will face a Longhorns squad coming off a 6-5 non-league win over Unicoi County (Erwin, TN). The Longhorns record now stands at 4-7.

With the loss, Avery County falls to 0-7 on the campaign. The Vikings travel to Owen (Black Mountain, NC) to face the Warhorses in a Western Highlands 1A/2A match on Tuesday, April 5. The Warhorses enter the match with a record of 6-3. Owen won 10-2 in their recent league match against Mitchell (Bakersville, NC)
