The Newton County Cougars (Decatur, MS) baseball got by the visiting Northeast Lauderdale Trojans (Meridian, MS), 2-1 in Friday's league challenge.

The Cougars now own a 12-9 record. They take the field next when they host West Lauderdale for a 4A Region 4 challenge on Tuesday, April 8. Newton County will clash with a Knights team coming off a 5-0 non-league win over Southeast Lauderdale (Meridian, MS). The Knights record now stands at 19-3.

With the defeat, Northeast Lauderdale drops to 7-13 on the year. The Trojans travel to Clarkdale (Meridian, MS) to play the Bulldogs in a non-league test on Saturday, April 5. The Bulldogs go into the test with a record of 7-6. Clarkdale lost 3-2 in their recent non-league test against West Lauderdale (Collinsville, MS)
