The Marco Island Academy Rays baseball team scored 14 runs and limited the host Dunbar Tigers to 2 in the Rays non-league victory on Tuesday.
The Rays (6-5) will now prepare for their match against Southwest Florida Christian (Fort Myers, FL). The King's go into the 2A District 12 match with a 7-7 record. In their last match, Southwest Florida Christian was overwhelmed by Community School of Naples (Naples, FL), 8-6, in a non-league match.
The Tigers (3-6) will now prepare for their match against Moore Haven (Moore Haven, FL). The Terriers go into the non-league match with a 3-6 record. In their last match, Moore Haven ran past Pahokee (Pahokee, FL), 20-0, in a non-league match.
Game Summary
The Manta Rays coasted to a solid victory over the Dunbar Tigers with a 14-2 win. The crafty senior right-hander Trent Dowd had another great performance on the mound by dominating the strike zone with 84 total pitches of which 53 were strikes. He allowed 8 hits over 5 innings with 7 K, 2 BB and only 2 Earned Runs.
Trent earned the MVP for the Manta Rays and the second MVP for the season. Other notable accomplishments were Jack Berry, which hit 3 for 3 with a triple and 2 doubles in the game. Also Matty Graybill hit 2 for 2 with two doubles for the Manta Rays.
