The Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars topped the host Alliance Marine-Innovation & Technology Griffins volleyball team by a score of 3-0 in Friday's league test.
The Cougars now have a 9-2 record. They put it on the line next when they host Sun Valley Magnet for a Central Valley test on Wednesday, April 10. Lake Balboa College Prep will confront a Pioneers team coming off a 3-0 league win over Magnolia Science Academy Reseda (Reseda, CA). The Pioneers record now stands at 3-7.
The Griffins (0-6) will now prepare for their game against Stern (Los Angeles, CA). The Titans enter the non-league game with a 11-4 record. In their last game, Stern dropped by Lakeview Charter (Sylmar, CA), 3-0, in a non-league game.
Match Summary
Lake Balboa's passing & defense held the lead in game 1 to narrowly edge out the set 1 win against a determined AMIT effort. The Cougar offense showed up in games 2 & 3 as the Lake Balboa team hit a respectable .217 & .211 in those games. Setter Narek Manukyan made the most of his front row opportunities to lead the charge with a .500 percentage with 5 balls parked on the hardwood in the last 2 sets. Manukyan also had 18 assists for the day. Arturo Pelaez hit .286 while Daniel Ancheta put down 11 spikes overall. The tight gym took some of the oomph off of Lake Balboa's serving but they still fired off 15 aces against AMIT featuring 6 by Arturo Pelaez & 4 by Daniel Ancheta. Pelaez was the shield for the Cougars denying AMIT 9 times while both Arturo & Daniel continued their superlative passing.
