In Saturday's non-league match, the host Mayo Spartans softball team scored a tight 7-4 victory over the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm.
The Spartans (3-0) will now prepare for their match against Red Wing (Red Wing, MN). The Wingers go into the Big 9 match with a 0-1 record. In their last match, Red Wing was routed by Ellsworth (Ellsworth, WI), 12-9, in a non-league match.
In their next game, the Storm battle the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres (Sartell, MN) in a Central Lakes match, on Thursday, April 10. Sauk Rapids-Rice will attempt to better on its 0-5 season record.
