Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC) supporters left the game pleased Monday as they saw their softball squad thwart the visiting Happy Valley Warriors (Elizabethton, TN), 13-1 in a non-league game.

With the triumph, Avery County improves its record to 1-8 on the year. The Vikings travel to Owen (Black Mountain, NC) to play the Warhorses in a Western Highlands 1A/2A game on Wednesday, April 9. The Warhorses enter the game with a record of 9-3. Owen won 18-3 in their recent league game against Mitchell (Bakersville, NC)

The Warriors now hold a 0-10 record. They play next when they travel to Chuckey-Doak for a 2A District 1 game on Tuesday, April 8. Happy Valley will play a Black Knights squad coming off a 15-1 non-league loss to University School (Johnson City, TN). The Black Knights record now stands at 1-9.
