Spectators at Monday's non-league match between the Mathews Blue Devils (Mathews, VA) and the host Lafayette Rams (Williamsburg, VA), witnessed Mathews's softball squad tip Lafayette by a count of 7-3.

The Blue Devils now sport a 7-9 record. They play next when they host King & Queen Central for a Tidewater match on Tuesday, May 2. Mathews will face a Royal Tigers squad coming off a 24-14 league win over Charles City (Charles City, VA). The Royal Tigers record now stands at 3-10.

With the loss, Lafayette moves to 1-13 on the season. The Rams host New Kent (New Kent, VA) to face the Trojans in a Bay Rivers match on Wednesday, May 3. The Trojans go into the match with a record of 11-3. New Kent won 5-4 in their recent league match against Smithfield (Smithfield, VA)
