Spectators at Wednesday's non-league match between the Pine Island Panthers (Pine Island, MN) and the visiting Mayo Spartans (Rochester, MN), witnessed Pine Island's softball squad tip Mayo by a count of 7-2.

The Panthers now sport a 4-7 record. They play next when they travel to Zumbrota-Mazeppa for a Hiawatha Valley match on Tuesday, May 7. Pine Island will meet a Cougars squad coming off a 8-7 non-league win over Dover-Eyota (Eyota, MN). The Cougars record now stands at 9-8.

With the loss, Mayo moves to 3-8 on the season. The Spartans travel to John Marshall (Rochester, MN) to meet the Rockets in a Big 9 match on Thursday, May 2. The Rockets go into the match with a record of 0-10. John Marshall lost 5-0 in their recent league match against Century (Rochester, MN)
