Spectators at Friday's league match between the Giles Spartans (Pearisburg, VA) and the host George Wythe Maroons (Wytheville, VA), witnessed Giles's softball squad tip George Wythe by a count of 6-4.

The Spartans now sport a 10-9 record. They play next when they host Grayson County for a Mountain Empire match on Monday, May 13. Giles will face a Blue Devils squad coming off a 14-4 league loss to Fort Chiswell (Max Meadows, VA). The Blue Devils record now stands at 4-14.

With the loss, George Wythe moves to 12-4 on the season. The Maroons host Galax (Galax, VA) to confront the Maroon Tide in a Mountain Empire battle on Monday, May 13. The Maroon Tide go into the battle with a record of 5-12. Galax lost 5-0 in their recent league battle against George Wythe (Wytheville, VA)
