James River Knights (Buchanan, VA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Alleghany Mountaineers (Covington, VA), 8-1 in a league challenge.

The Knights now own a 17-1 record. They take the field next when they host Floyd County for a Three Rivers challenge on Tuesday, May 16.

With the loss, Alleghany falls to 11-6 on the campaign. The Mountaineers host Floyd County (Floyd, VA) to battle the Buffaloes in a Three Rivers challenge on Monday, May 15. The Buffaloes enter the challenge with a record of 9-9. Floyd County lost 7-5 in their recent league challenge against Carroll County (Hillsville, VA)
