Newaygo Lions (Newaygo, MI) backers exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad run past the visiting Sparta Spartans (Sparta, MI), 19-5 in a non-league challenge.

The Lions now own a 14-6 record. They take the field next when they host Tri County Area for a Central State Activities Association-Gold challenge on Tuesday, May 14. Newaygo will battle a Vikings squad coming off a 18-8 non-league loss to Fremont (Fremont, MI). The Vikings record now stands at 0-10.

With the loss, Sparta falls to 5-12 on the campaign. The Spartans host Belding (Belding, MI) to battle the Black Knights in a non-league challenge on Tuesday, May 14. The Black Knights enter the challenge with a record of 3-11. Belding lost 12-2 in their recent non-league challenge against Lakeview (Lakeview, MI)
