Verona Hillbillies (Verona, NJ) backers exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Newark Academy Minutemen (Livingston, NJ), 7-0 in a league challenge.

The Hillbillies now own a 12-9 record. They take the field next when they travel to Secaucus for a non-league challenge on Wednesday, May 22. Verona will face a Patriots squad coming off a 15-0 league loss to St. Mary (Rutherford, NJ). The Patriots record now stands at 4-17.

With the loss, Newark Academy falls to 4-13 on the campaign. The Minutemen travel to Montclair Kimberley Academy (Montclair, NJ) to face the Cougars in a non-league challenge on Thursday, May 23. The Cougars enter the challenge with a record of 15-8. Montclair Kimberley Academy lost 10-9 in their recent league challenge against West Orange (West Orange, NJ)
