The crowd at Thursday's non-league battle between the Gilbert Tigers (Gilbert, IA) and the visiting Saydel Eagles (Des Moines, IA), witnessed Gilbert's baseball team hold off Saydel by a count of 2-1.
The Tigers now own a 1-1 record. They take the field next when they travel to Van Meter for a non-league challenge on Saturday, May 24. Gilbert will clash with a Bulldogs team coming off a 7-6 non-league win over Newman Catholic (Mason City, IA). The Bulldogs record now stands at 1-1.
With the defeat, Saydel drops to 2-1 on the year. The Eagles host West Marshall (State Center, IA) to clash with the Trojans in a non-league challenge on Wednesday, May 28. The Trojans go into the challenge with a record of 2-3.
