The crowd at Friday's league match between the Hempstead Mustangs (Dubuque, IA) and the visiting Waterloo West Wahawks (Waterloo, IA), saw Hempstead's softball squad nip Waterloo West by a count of 7-4.

The Mustangs now sport a 2-3 record. They take the field next when they host Cedar Falls for a non-league match on Wednesday, June 5.

With the loss, Waterloo West falls to 1-7 on the campaign. The Wahawks host Kennedy (Cedar Rapids, IA) to face the Cougars in a Mississippi Valley - Valley match on Tuesday, June 4. The Cougars enter the match with a record of 3-0. Kennedy won 6-4 in their recent non-league match against Southeast Polk (Pleasant Hill, IA)
