Caldwell Chiefs (West Caldwell, NJ) backers exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Wayne Valley Indians (Wayne, NJ), 5-4 in a non-league challenge.

The Chiefs now own a 2-4 record. They take the field next when they travel to Westwood for a non-league challenge on Friday, May 5. Caldwell will battle a Cardinals squad coming off a 17-8 non-league loss to Ridgefield Park (Ridgefield Park, NJ). The Cardinals record now stands at 6-6.

With the loss, Wayne Valley falls to 4-6 on the campaign. The Indians host Lakeland Regional (Wanaque, NJ) to battle the Lancers in a Big North challenge on Monday, May 8. The Lancers enter the challenge with a record of 1-4. Lakeland Regional lost 11-4 in their recent non-league challenge against Fair Lawn (Fair Lawn, NJ)
