Marissa/Coulterville Meteors (Marissa, IL) backers exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad nip the host New Athens Yellow Jackets (New Athens, IL), 9-6 in a league challenge.

The Meteors now own a 11-7 record. They take the field next when they travel to Breese Central for a non-league challenge on Tuesday, May 9. Marissa/Coulterville will battle a Cougars squad coming off a 9-3 non-league loss to Wesclin (Trenton, IL). The Cougars record now stands at 10-13.

With the loss, New Athens falls to 5-16 on the campaign. The Yellow jackets host Red Bud (Red Bud, IL) to battle the Musketeers in a non-league challenge on Thursday, May 11. The Musketeers enter the challenge with a record of 24-8. Red Bud won 11-1 in their recent league challenge against Chester (Chester, IL)
