Mellen Granite Diggers (Mellen, WI) backers exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Hurley Northstars (Hurley, WI), 7-6 in a league challenge.

The Granite Diggers now own a 6-2 record. They take the field next when they travel to South Shore for a Northern Lights challenge on Friday, May 10. Mellen will face a Cardinals squad coming off a 23-12 league loss to Drummond (Drummond, WI). The Cardinals record now stands at 0-5.

With the loss, Hurley falls to 4-7 on the campaign. The Northstars travel to Glenwood City (Glenwood City, WI) to face the Hilltoppers in a non-league challenge on Saturday, May 11. The Hilltoppers enter the challenge with a record of 3-11. Glenwood City lost 13-2 in their recent league challenge against Elk Mound (Elk Mound, WI)
