The crowd at Friday's non-league bout between the Sparta Spartans (Sparta, MI) and the visiting Newaygo Lions (Newaygo, MI), observed Sparta's softball team notch a victory over Newaygo by a margin of 12-2.

The Spartans now sport a 14-7 record. They put it on the line next when they host Lowell for a non-league outing on Monday, May 12.

With the loss, Newaygo moves to 5-8 on the season. The Lions host Chippewa Hills (Remus, MI) to encounter the Warriors in a Central State Activities Association-Gold outing on Monday, May 12. The Warriors come into the outing with a record of 15-10. Chippewa Hills lost 15-4 in their recent league outing against Kent City (Kent City, MI)
